Manipuri Koreans!!!

For the last few years i have seen fanatic fans of Korean movies and serials in Manipur. I could say that those who haven't seen Korean movies in Manipur is considered to be fron stone age. I don't know whats thee in Korean movies but there is always something that makes people glued to the movie/serial. In fact my friends in MBA which are of course non Manipuris have accepted them so well after " my sassy girl", "Windstruck" and other movies that they began to imitate like Koreans.
Now who can say that Korean movies are not great?

I began to think of its culture and behaviour in those movies projected by those actors/actress and found out that its cool! Any movie or serial will reflect the culture and nature of the place, no matter in which language it be.Thats the true beauty of art and human behaviour. No matter what the culture or religion one follows, the movies will always reflect their culture and thoughts. From the Korean movies i came to know lot of things especially about relationships and their perception of life.Maybe they follow a different religion or pray to a different local God but its not that matters here..its how they progress in life. In China they eat frogs which is considered to be a very low kind of act in India of all things. In Japan they eat locusts, mice, octopus etc which are considered to be a very "barbaric act" or food items in India. But none complains in India and they only relate that Japanese eat this and that ..thats it. But if you eat a frog in India wou will be outcasted from the group, village or locality. But they accept the fact that Japanese eat them so its ok for them. Does that mean that due to the progress of the country, the food habits, thir culture is acceptable while the same food be considered as
something worthless? So does that mean that the food habits depends on where it is being eaten/served??

I have been to Kerala and many other places. The most amazing thing is that,in a small town of 10/20 Kms radius they have a small restaurant where we can eat pork and beef.Well inknow that Indians will offend that but i would like to emphasize that the rating of life depends on the progress in life and not what people do in life.

Many children have been reported to talk in Koreans impressed bt the movies. The basic thing about Korean movies is that the storyline is so nice. There is not a single movie /serial that I have not shed a tear. You will realize this when you get married and have to think about the if not follow orders from someone.

Different upbringings! My school (Don Bosco,Imphal) against other top three schools

Here is a comparison of four famous schools of Manipur in terms of the student's character and upbringing. Maybe i am wrong in my own ways but they are my own experience as well as form my batch mates. Now the analysis part:

1) Group activities: I dunno how or when we have been embedded with a familiar teaching of grouping since childhood days. Freak out in groups, punished in groups, played in groups, eat, drink, fun etc. It seems like individually one could not have had the fun one would have got in groups.
From nursery till class ten we would have to go in line after assembly, sit house wise (in sports),class wise participation and not mixed classes (rare) in case of any event, class wise or section wise competition, class wise talent search, class wise allotment of books by late sir terry, class wise allotment of class teacher (in lower class),class wise matches -football,basketball. So you can see we have been always in groups from start till we pass out!!

You may argue that other schools like LFS,Josephs etc also do the same thing in school but here i would differ in the perspective of the student- teacher relationships as well as the difference in school's mission and hence upbringing.
" TRUTH & DUTY" (Joseph's) ,
"Virtue and Knowledge" (LFS) ,
" Love,Wisdom,Truth,Justice,Service." (NBS)
as against " "For God and country" (DBS- my school)
http://www.kanglaonline.com/index.php?template=som_index&Idoc_Session=03b35813d045167c4a1488597d343a98

2) Behavior: In our batch, i have noticed that St.Joseph's students are quite hard working and serious kinda nature (on average),
LFS students were of competitive nature (on average),
NBS students were logical and practical in nature (on average) whereas DBS guys were dedicated, loyal and submissive in nature. Please don't have any personal grudge on me because of my remarks of "half baked research" as i told earlier, they are my own experiences and findings. And i am taking about the overall nature of the students and none in particular (there are definitely exceptions in each case). Now can you relate nature of each school's students with their school's mission? Yeah i hope so.

3) As a person: St. Joseph guys were kinda silent performers who ascend when their fellowmen are sleeping - they show their results through their actions, doesn't share much with their classmates unless necessary,
NBS were silent motivators, who upon motivation either ascend their steps or remain still - they mark their presence silently, doesn't share in school but discuss in private with their classmates
LFS gals..hmm they are quite fussy when it comes to studies.. like to discuss in class and keep the extra knowledge for herself type
DBS guys- ahh wat can i say..i can see in the glow of their happiness.
they are reputationally motivated (what will she say if i come 3rd this time type) lol Jokes apart..they don't think of studies as a part of their career but as a tool in life/part of their life. They freak out, have all the fun in school and at home and yest find time to study also.(i almost forgot ) they are ready to share anything, unless its emotionally attached..
4) Location : The location of DBS is such that its alomst cutoff from the rest of the world. when you enter those tall iron gates, you leave behind the world outside. there are two worlds for them an inside world (in school) which was disciplined, friendly, fun and enjoyment. (tell me a name who hasnt enjoyed a single day in DBS?)
i always wanted to go outside the gates when we were in school but a fear too gripped me from within as if when i return "what if the gates are closed and i cant enter?". besides that the beautiful "chingmeirong ching" stand before us as if guarding us from evil...with the vast green football ground upon our mercy. (most schools dont have football ground)

NBS is located in the middle of city..without any good view.anyway they arent fussy abt views (who can expect a beautiful landscape in middle of city?) the school campus is their world..and sadly even less space to play.!! so less interaction with students of other classes..

LFS lies a few kms out of the city limits ( u pass by the welcome to imphal board when u go to LFS!!) And with a college just opposite their school (Imphal college),they have a glimpse of the college life even when they are at school.. (lucky gals) hence have a biased nature and forms perception fast. their world too ends within the green gates with a wish to be located nearer to the city (London Fashion school they call themselves lol). i guess they interact more with sisters rather than their classmates

St josephs..it seems to be an out casted school.. away from city..away from all odds of life..with the line of mountains on the horizon..maybe thats why they dont talk much..their world is limited ..alone in the middle of the fields it stand .

Besides all rumors..an LFS gal looks out for St Joseph guy and vice versa as NBS looks upto DBS and vice versa.

P.S. These are my views and personal experiences Suggestions and criticisms are welcome but not personally.I don't hold any personal grudge with any schools or students.

Thursday again: its Aloo-gobi and roti !!!!

You might be wondering what a funny topic to write today! Yeah but it isn't if you read further and rather not lose interest.

A few weeks ago,on Thursday lunch we have "allo gobi" with roti, rice etc. I seldom eat roti just because its not worth in mess and i prefer rice to roti. That day i ate roti with the aloo gobi and the most amazing thing happened out of nowhere! I remembered my childhood days when we used to have rotis every saturday or sunday with aloo gobi, aloo dum or any other sabji.

Its not of the sudden eating of roti but the taste that day;i experienced almost the same taste as the one which my late grandfather had prepared when i was a child!! I ate the roti and sabji ..chewing slowly and trying to bask in the memories past long ago, forgotten with time.I closed my eyes, could see myself siting in the kitchen floor and having food.Mom was taking out rotis after rotis from the hot case where it was stored.I could hear my grandfather counting how many he had eaten and asking me how many i had already,as if we were on a competition! I had finished most of the rotis while others were just starting,so mom asked me to stop eating. With the little sabji on the plate and a sad face,i finish my last roti and retired from the tiring exercise!!
It seemed just like yesterday, dwindled and twisted. When i opened my eyes,i realized i had two rotis on my plate with more sabji. I somehow felt aback to realize the reality and wished if i had the last roti in my hand and a little sabji made by my grandfather instead of the two rotis and more sabji i had that time.

I also realized that on thursdays we use to have gobi at home often, because it was a veggie day at home.Somehow i could not understand all these things happening at the split of a thought instantaneously. I suddenly felt like crying to miss him badly and remember him so suddenly, the thrust seem to have gained momentum on my eyes.I watched the people in the cafe around..laughing,eating and talking their way of lives.I smiled at myself for the funny little thought that came tom my mind as i was eating my last roti with sabji.

Memories flashed before me like a lightning making a thundering sound in my stomach and raining slowly from my eyes.I pressed my eyelids hard and tried not to led the tear roll down and waste its value before the rest of the world who were busy with their own work.I took up the corrugated silver glass, slide it against the broken rim and drank the water slowly as i woke up from the table with my plate. My friend yelled "are you finished so soon?". I said," i have had enough rotis, ill take rice" and took rice from the counter.

Today is thursday, and believe me i smiled at myself as i took more chapatis than rice and amazed my friends. They don't know that on this day,i do remember my beloved grandpa through this morsel of food. And all i wish to have is the last piece of roti with a little sabji after leaving a roti and some sabji on the side of plate for my grandpa!

Miss you and love you grandpa.Wherever you are,do rest in peace!

Microsoft Wndows Vista

Many people find it amusing and report to have best interface. But is it really worth it? One of the main reasons i didn't install vista is because it is basically a 64 bit Operating system and 64 bit applications are scarce (rather not made till now though some are compatible). I could say that the interface is nice but it is reported that almost everything has been copied from Apple's Mac version. The gadgets (In Apple it's called Widgets),the 3D games (like chess, only the background has been changed)..almost everything..yet Microsoft claims it to be ingenious!!

I found out that Vista can be installed as 32 bit application too though i haven't tried it out to prove its worth.Maybe it would be much better than XP in terms of interface and other things but looking at the memory that it curbs up,i won't go for it as of now. Many of my friends are asking me for tools to clean up registry, repair them, tune up their vista but i would say its not the tools, its the Vista that is giving problems. Maybe ill have to look into it in more detail and write again.

For now,its just a memory eating chunk of dump with no applications available except for some which had been extended for compatibility.

My days in a hospital

I remember a short prose on "In Celebration of being alive",by late Dr. Christian Barnard which i studied in school days.In it,he author had written all the odds and bad things that happened in his life and at the end he realised the good part of his accounts. He said,"Sufferings ennobles a person." Well,i always remember these words whenever i feel the hardships of life and think it could not have been much worser than what had happened to Dr. Christian Barnard and move on in life. Thanks Doctor for those words, they gave me new life each time and the strength to endure the pain and hardships of life.

I had this backpain problem since i was a child due to hard labour and putting up heavy things being the eldest son in the family. am not complaining coz i did what i was suppose to do for the family. My pain started again on 24th August night and i could not even stand up but lie down in bed. In the morning of 25th August i managed to open the latch of the door sliding on the chair till the door as i could not stand up and walk upto it!! I was hospitalized for 5 days and treated in a private hospital in Pune against the diagnosed "slip disc".

As a child, i used to love going to hospital especially because it was a different scenario and not that i was enjoying the pain and shouts of patients but i somehow feel that i can see the real world out there. And when i was hospitalized i was happy to have all my friends and dear ones calling up one by one and helping me get better in some way or other.

I was given traction which were painful initially but it soon went away with the first morning and could walk. Whole day i watched TV in the room and gazed outside the sliding window beside the bed.I could see blue patches of the sky behind the entangling branches of the trees. It was a nice view i thought though maybe it seemed little unusual! I wondered and pondered watching the sky and remembered my childhood days,my school days and all those good times i had in life. Its true that a person remembers his good times in times of suffering and holds on to that though its hard to linger on with it! Life had been good to me still i thought it was quite an experience too.

Those five days in hospital taught me many things. Many friends called up asking for my updates and well being. My relatives and parent who finally came to know through some sources were calling me up now and then asking about my health and advising me what to do and what not. Life seemed suddenly to have been entwined among these relations and emotions. It was a nice feeling to know that people cared for me no matter how and what i had gone through with them earlier! Everyone liked to be cared, asked and loved i thought!

I had to inform other friends who relied on me for some work or the other about my health and they understood it well enough to have relieved me from the burden of any commitment whatsoever i had given them.It was indeed a relief for me too. I decided not to sit too long before laptop except when necessary. So i am cutting out on internet hours and online activity and stressing on resting and making myself better for the coming exams. One of the best part was mails from my friends who came to know about my illness later. They advised me,wished me good things and prayed for me. The school alumni members mailed me and wished a speedy recovery and it indeed was very nice of them. I was feeling to be in the family again.

No matter how those 5 days were spent,i could not forget how happy i felt;not for being ill but in knowing about peoples cares for me.As the saying goes,"with time people forget what they have been told, but they will never forget how they felt that time".
